A swamp cooler is a device that cools
air through the evaporation of water. Swamp cooler differs
from typical air
conditioning systems which
use vapor-compression .Vapor-compression refrigeration is one of
the many refrigeration cycles and is the most
widely used method for air-conditioning of buildings and
automobiles.

Swamp cooler works by employing water's large enthalpy of vaporization（The enthalpy of vaporization, also known
as the (latent) heat of vaporization or
heat of evaporation, is the enthalpy change required to
transform a given quantity of a substance from a liquid into a gas at a given pressure (often atmospheric pressure, as in STP). The temperature of dry
air can be dropped significantly through the phase transition of liquid water
to water vapor (evaporation), which can cool air using much less energy than refrigeration.
In extremely dry climates, evaporative cooling of air has the added benefit of
conditioning the air with more moisture for the comfort of building occupants.
